Does it really hurt you to not to have any questions to ask?That may depend on the situation and the type of job you are applying for. In general, if you gave an otherwise great interview and then at the end you had no questions to ask them, you’re probably ok. Usually by that point the interviewer already knows what they want to do. They’re looking for a person who can do the job and will fit in. How you present yourself throughout, more than any one answer (unless you say something horrible), is what an interviewer remembers. So it may not be a deal-breaker for you.But still, the impression you leave them with with can help solidify your chances, so why take a chance?
So how do you handle being caught without a question?The real trick is doing enough research to come up with questions that are NOT typically covered when the employer gives you their basic run-down of the company and job. Also good to make quick notes as they are speaking if a new question arises in the moment. But if they do cover everything and you just can’t come up with a new question, then just smile and say “You’ve already answered my questions, thank you.” And then maybe add “Is there anything else I can tell you about myself at this point to help you decide to give me the job?” Use your discretion on that last idea, of course. But odds are you won’t lose points if you handle your response in a way that still shows you are very interested. And you may just leave an extra nice impression of a pleasantly confident person who wants the job!
