In the nineteen seventies, a group of psychologists in the industrial field created a new type of interview process known as a behavioral interview. The new style stated that the best way to know how well a prospective employee would react to their new position was to find out how they handled problems and tasks in their old one. Some companies today are using this type of interview solely while others are only using portions of the interviewing process when sorting through applicants.
Tips for Preparing for a Behavioral Interview
Any company that utilizes this type of interview process already knows what it wants in an applicant for the job that it is hiring for. Depending on the position, there are many qualities in an applicant that the company is going to be looking for. This is done by looking at the position and determining what assets a new employee can bring to it. It is important for those who are seeking to fill the position to delve into it just a thoroughly. There are certain questions that the applicant must look at and be prepared for. The following are a few of these questions:
1. What skills are needed to fully complete the work that the position entails?
2. What would the company consider to be the perfect person for the position?
3. Who would not be the right person for the position?
4. Why did the previous employee leave the job?
5. Can you handle the hardest part of the position that you are applying for?
Sometimes it can be hard to even get to the interview stage. If you have the qualifications to make it that far, you are ahead of the game. Before the interview, have some examples of issues and situations that came up in your prior job to show how your past performance would make you a great employee now.
