Employers take into consideration how interested you’re in the job; it means also if you’re interested in the company, their culture, history, mission, goals, etc. That’s why they formulate some questions about the company and the position you are applying. What do you know about our organization?
Answer: You should be prepared to talk about products/services, image, people, history and philosophy of the organization, but even if you know a lot, don’t act as if you new everything about the company. However, talk with confidence as if you were investigating. Talk positively even if you knew about problems in the company and don’t believe yourself as the savior.
Why do you want to work for us?
Answer: Questions about the company require good and specific answers so don’t be generic with your answers, if you did the research we recommended previously, so tailor your answer as much as you can with the company you’re applying and its needs. You can say for example:
Through research I found that the company is doing projects such as XYZ and I would like to be involved with it.
Your research must include and focus in related information to the position you want and the industry you want, if you talk about things you don’t compete, probably you’ll pass as a liar or you’ll get a job you won’t like.
How long would it take you to make a meaningful contribution to our firm?
Answer: You cannot be a fortune-teller, so it’s not necessary to affirm some date; however, it’s important to be positive and realistic at the same time; you can say that you’ll pull your own weight from the first day, and it’s necessary to spend from six months to a year to know the company well enough to contribute significantly.
Do you think you’re overqualified for this position? / Your resume suggests that you may be over-qualified or too experienced for this position. What’s Your opinion?
Answer: Try to not establish that you’re or not overqualified, but give a positive angle to the situation; for example mention that strong companies require a strong stuff, so if they consider you’re overqualified it’s a benefit for the company, although as it’s said a growing and energetic company can never have too much talent.
Why should we hire you?
Answer: Give concrete examples of your skills, accomplishments and organize the ideas to make you the best candidates, you can compare your skills or abilities with the requirements in the job description. If there’s something you need be positive and emphasize in your interest in the company.
What challenges are you looking for in a position?
Answer: You can mention that one of your motivations is to meet challenges, and find the way through your skills to handle them; you can talk about how use your skills and experience in the job. If it gets necessary, you can talk about past experiences in related jobs.
How long do you expect to remain employed with this company?
Answer: Unless the job description specifies the opposite, no company will look for employees that want the job for a short amount of time or are planning to relocate or go back to school; they’re looking for long term personnel. In this question you can emphasize that you would like to work with them for as long as your services are required; or your plans include a satisfying career with them, that’s why you applied to that company.
Is there anything I haven’t told you about the job or company that you would like to know?
Answer: Think carefully in the answer for this question because the questions you might have shouldn’t be answered on their website or any other public document; if your questions are more detailed or interesting, they’ll notice your interest in the company and the job position.
