What to Include in a Creative Veterinary Technician Resume

In a creative resume, you highlight your creative side, and use numbers and other metrics to illustrate the success of your endeavors. It is fine to show that you are comfortable stepping outside of a comfort zone. Still, group your expertise according to three areas: skills, work experience and education, and take advantage of bullet points to make your lists stand out. Be sure from the job description and other areas of your research that a creative resume matches the position/business you are applying to.

Common Resume Fails: Mistakes to Avoid

  • Providing Too Much Information: Try to stick to highlighting your creative attributes in jobs related to being a veterinary technician; for example, discussing your creative endeavors at a fast food job does not carry as much weight and may take up precious space.
  • Formatting Too Creatively: Let the creativity of your work speak for itself. Do not get overly creative with font choices, colors and grammar markers, for example. You want your resume to be pleasantly easy to read.
  • Skipping a Proofread: For your resume to truly shine, it must be free of grammar errors and typos. Re-read for these types of errors, and have other qualified folks help you out, too.
  • Forgetting to Include Results: One thing that makes people more comfortable with creative risk-taking is the fact that these behaviors can bring good results. Use numbers and other metrics to show the results you have achieved. For instance, a workshop you proposed may have had attendance of 50+ people per session and netted a total of 25 new patients in a single month.
