There doesn’t seem to be any part of life that isn’t affected by computers, from medicine to recreation, and as a result, some computer systems have ’embedded’ functions within the mainframe that carry out specialized tasks. An embedded engineer deals with these specialized functions which can be the entire system, or a part of a computer system that handles a wide variety of tasks. An embedded engineer resume would highlight the candidate’s ability to work with both hardware and software aspects of a system that is set up to handle specific functions, as a part of a complete system or as a stand alone product.
Embedded Engineer Resume – Objective Statement
Although an embedded engineer is capapble of designing and/or maintaining literally every aspect of a computer, the field is infinitely more complex than that. The objective statement would need to be written in such a way as to make the applicant’s expertise perfectly clear from the onset. For instance, an embedded engineer seeking a job with a company that manufactures PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), would highlight the fact that he/she is capable of working with the entire device or specialized embedded functions. “HIghly qualified embedded engineer seeking a spot on a team that develops specialized applications for PDAs which can stand alone, or be integrated with the other features in the device.”
Embedded Engineer Resume – Qualifications and Skills
Because ’embedded applications’ is a loosely defined term, skills and qualifications come to the forefront in an embedded engineer resume. The applicant would need to show the ability to analyze the entire operating system in terms of hardware and software in order to design and/or maintain embedded functions within. Skills might be listed as being ‘highly analytical,’ ‘task oriented,’ while also having ‘the ability to foresee and allow for future extensible upgrades.’ Skills and qualifications are in list or bulleted list format.
Professional Experience for an Embedded Engineer Resume
The professional experience listed in an embedded engineer resume should show experience in the specialized field he or she is seeking employment in, beginning with the most recent job and working backwards in reverse chronological order. A person who most recently worked with Palm Pilot, the orginal PDAs, would list the company, location and dates of employment first on the list. Immediately following that would be responsibilities and duties within the job parameters. Again, these are are in list or bulleted list format and would include such things as ‘developing embedded GPS for Palm Pilot,’ ‘led research group in early prototypes,’ along with other specific duties. And then the employer before that would be listed with corresponding duties, and so forth down the list.
Educational Requirements for an Embedded Engineer Resume
Most often, an embedded engineer will require a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Sciences with an emphasis on microprocessors and embedded technology. However, embedded engineers usually hold graduate degrees because of the highly specialized nature of their profession. Education is listed from the highest degree backwards to high school. Any specialized research projects as part of internships and other educational accolades could be listed here as well. Specialized coursework required by many states prior to professional licensure in this field could also be noted, along with certifications and awards.
