English Resume – Objective Statement
The very top of every resume is always the name, and contact information of the job applicant. Immediately following that would be the objective statement. It may be a single line stating the purpose of desiring employment at that particular company or organization. For example, a person seeking employment as a translator with a large import/export firm in New York might write an objective statement that says, ‘Multilingual translator fluent is French, Italian, German and English seeking position in the import/export market.’ Anyone reviewing this resume would probably be clued in to the fact that the candidate, while fluent in four languages, is probably also well versed in marketing and/or economics.
English Resume – Qualifications and Skills
Qualifications and skills on a chronological resume are those characteristics and traits that make the candidate desirable for hire by the company in which he or she is seeking employment. These qualifications could be personality traits or job related skills. Sometimes candidates list such things as ‘highly motivated, energetic, goal oriented, and efficient in time management.’ Other times skills listed would be job related such as ‘proficient in multi-media presentations, MS Office and currency exchange.’ These kinds of skills would be ideal for a translator in a multi-national import/export exchange.
Professional Experience for an English Resume
Professional experience is listed in reverse order on an English resume. Beginning with the current or most recent place of employment, each job is listed separately with duties and responsibilities specific to that job. For example, a person who is a French national and is a chef would list the restaurants he or she was employed by according to city and region, the dates of employment and the position held. For instance, a head chef might list being responsible for a staff of 20 kitchen employees including line cooks, sous chefs, prep cooks and other related duties such as ordering and inventory control.
Educational Requirements for an English Resume
This is an area on an English resume that might be a bit difficult for a foreign national to compile. While many educational institutions might be recognized in the United States, many degrees don’t transfer well. What this means is that some courses may need to be taken here in order to receive comparable certification or diplomas in this country. Before listing any educational degrees, it is vital to have them translated and certified by a university in this country. Once that is accomplished, the highest level of education is listed first and all preceding degrees would be listed in reverse order.
