Writing a technical resume can be more difficult than other types but with the right information you can learn how to write a technical resume effectively. The resume is designed to give the potential employer an outline of your background training and credentials. Your goal is to grab the attention of the potential employer at first glance.
A technical resume should be well organized describing your credentials in such a way that it intrigues the employer and makes them want to learn more. Once you get their attention, you need to keep it by being direct and to the point and only using information that is relevant to the position for which you’re applying.

Highlight Your Qualifications
When writing a technical resume, you need to use words and phrases that highlight your qualifications. Of course, the words you use will depend on the specific position you’re applying for but some examples would include programming, software, scientific research, white papers, networking, hardware and computing. These are words and phrases that will capture the attention of the potential employer and make them interested enough to continue reading.
Use these words or phrases as sub headers under the section for your qualifications to list your technical expertise. Under each one put what training you have that specifically relates to that particular field. This way, when the potential employer is viewing the resume the sub header will get their attention and they will see directly under it the exact training you have with that particular skill.
Employment History and Education
The next section of your technical resume will contain your employment history. Always start with your most recent job and be thorough with your information. In other words, write the name of the company, your supervisor and a phone number where they can be reached. Provide your job title and a brief but detailed description of your responsibilities and achievements.
The last section will contain your education and special qualifications. Be sure and list any degrees that you have. This is a great time to mention any special training you’ve received or seminars you’ve attended provided they directly relate to the job position you’re applying for. Following these guidelines will help you write a technical resume effectively and increase your odds of being noticed and called in for an interview.
