Secretary CV Questions
In the experience section, list your employment in reverse chronological order, starting with your current job. Put the title of your position, the dates you worked there, and the name and location of the company for which you worked. See our secretary CV sample for a good example of how this should look.
Under each job listing, add five to eight bullet points describing your responsibilities and accomplishments. Use short, succinct statements and numbers whenever possible. For example, “implemented a new software database that improved record-keeping accuracy by 13%.”
A secretary CV can be simple and conservative or bold and modern with color and graphics. Consider which design reflects the image you want to convey. Also think about the potential employer who will see this CV. Are you sending it to a 200-year-old law firm or a contemporary architecture company? You can tailor the look of your CV to fit the job.
Whichever you choose, make sure the layout is clean and easy to read, as illustrated in our secretary CV sample. Use bold headers for the sections and neatly aligned bulleted lists. Unless you have more than 15 years’ experience, keep it under two pages long.
List your education in reverse chronological order with the most recent degree first. As you can see in our secretary CV sample, put the name of the degree and the name and location of the school that awarded it. If you are a recent graduate, you may add the year. Do not put your GPA, but do include graduating with honors. If you have one certification, add it here, but more than that merit their own section.
When listing awards on your CV, only put down the ones that contribute to your professional profile. This includes academic awards, employee awards, recognitions from professional organizations, and service or community awards. It’s best to leave off prizes such as, “First Place at Barry Manilow Karaoke Night.” Put the name of the award, the organization that presented it, and the year. The hobbies and interests section is a great place to let employers know a little bit about you. Be sure to put down volunteerism, sports, creative or performing arts, and interesting classes. If you coach a successful team, mention any championships they’ve won. If you are really proud of your Barry Manilow Karaoke Night performance, it’s okay to add that here as well.
